Orienteering Australia

Event information: Carrolls Spring

Export to calendar Back

Probably the most beautiful bit of forest on an orienteering map in Victoria, with the lovely Werribee River bisecting the map. It is an unusual orienteering challenge. Subtle spur gully will require accurate compass work, but large fallen trees and areas of thicker vegetation make travelling in a straight line difficult.

Head north for 13 km from the Ballan exit on the Western Freeway to the former Mineral Springs Hotel. Turn right into the Spargo Blakeville Road and continue for 1.4 km to McGees Road. Turn right and follow McGees Road for 2.7 km to Carrolls Track. Turn right again and continue for 500 metres to the assembly area. Do not try to come in on Carrolls Track from the west unless you have a serious 4WD and intend to use it.

Long hard, short hard and moderate courses on offer. The forest is sometimes slow, and courses will be a bit longer than they seem. The long hard course will cross the knee deep Werribee River. Other minor creeks are also flowing. Expect to get wet feet!
